Audio in Leveled Readers
It appears that you must have the latest version of Adobe Reader for the audio to play in the leveled readers. Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html to download the latest version of Adobe Reader for your operating system. You must be logged in as Teacher to download and install the application.

Here is some additional information regarding the audio in the Scott Foresman Leveled Readers that are accessed online.

In a previous update, I mentioned that you needed to have the latest version of Adobe Reader for the audio to play. The latest version of the Reader is 8.1.1. However, Adobe Reader 8 will only run on Macs with the 10.4.3 operating system and the majority of Macs in the district are running 10.3.9. So, that version of the Reader for the older operating system is 7.0.9.

If the audio isn’t working on your Mac, there are several steps to the fix. Unfortunately, this process is a pain, but until the IT Service Desk redoes the Mac image (which they are in the process of doing since we found out about this issue), you will have to do these steps yourself if you want the audio.

When you access the online resources, you should be using the Safari web browser.

*First, run all Software Updates. Go to the Apple menu and select Software Update and Install.
*Second, make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Reader 7.
Update that by opening Adobe Reader, then going to the Help menu and then selecting Check for updates now…
*Third, open Adobe Reader and go to the Adobe Reader menu and select Preferences. Under Categories, click on Internet. Under the Web Browser Options, uncheck the box Display PDF in browser.

Now, when you download a leveled reader, a dialog box should pop up, prompting you to open the file or save to disk. Save it to your desktop. Ctrl+click on the icon of the downloaded PDF file and select Get Info. Under the Open With section, choose Adobe Reader (the latest version you have). Then click the button that says Change All…This will open all PDF files in Adobe Reader instead of the Mac app Preview. Open the PDf and the audio should play.
