Focus Group for Your Voice Initiative
3:30-5 p.m.

Here are the details regarding our first meeting on Thursday, Oct. 29. I have been asked by the Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission (MHCRC) if they can use some of our time to conduct a focus group with teachers to obtain technology-related feedback. Normally, our sessions will be from 12:30-3:30 p.m. but because of the focus group, we are ending at 3 and the focus group will be from 3:30-5 p.m. I would greatly appreciate your participation if you could stay. MHCRC has awarded our district significant grant monies in the last several years (their award funded the VoIP project), so it is important that we are able to provide them with input. You will get paid for those one and a half hours and there will be drinks and treats.

SMC Switch Policy
Switches will only be supplied by IT to replace broken equipment. These can be obtained in one of two ways, both of which must originate with a request to the IT Service Desk:

• By a visit from a field technician who determines that a switch needs to be replaced.
• By request from the user; in order to get the switch(es) this way, the user will need to send in the broken switch(es) for a one-to-one swap. If sent by PONY, please make sure the ticket number is included.

Any switch requests that are not for replacement must go through IT Purchasing and be paid or out of building funds.

Student Passwords and Security
Students should change their passwords from the default; they do this by logging in to PPS Inside like staff would do.

  Free survey tool with no limitations
• Poll Everywhere
  This web-based tool replaces clickers with standard web technology. You can gather live responses in any venue: conferences, presentations, classrooms, radio, tv, print — anywhere via text messaging or web voting.
• Photo Story 3
  Free download for WIndows XP users. Similar to iPhoto. It includes features that enable you to create a slideshow with your digital pictures, edit your pictures, create your story with original music, add narration, and share them with your family and friends.

He led the British government’s 1998 advisory committee on creative and cultural education, a massive inquiry into the significance of creativity in the educational system and the economy, and was knighted in 2003 for his achievements. He is the author of Out of Our Minds: Learning to Be Creative and his latest book, The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything, a deep look at human creativity and education, was published in January 2009.

eWaste Recycling: next deadline is January 4 (https://it.pps.k12.or.us/index.pl?id=13182)

XP upgrades are elective, but can be kicked off so that reimaging of qualified systems results in our XP image instead of Win2K. Schools must complete forms and confirm that their site is “XP Ready”. Key points to consider:

• All conversions are elective in nature and thus will not involve onsite IT support
• Once converted, only qualifying systems will receive XP, and only upon the next time they are imaged
• Hardware upgrades intended to bring computer up to XP standards will be funded at the school’s discretion
• Conversions will occur as they are received, with time between each to ensure that no issues occur

Digital Kits Moodle

If you want to explore some of the digital kits on the PPS Moodle, you will need to follow the link above and then create an account. A digital kit is a collection of media based on a particular unit that is gathered by the teacher. Students can then use the resources in projects, assignments, presentations, etc.
