Obama Presidential Inauguration

Uncategorized, Videos, Workshop, YouTube  Tagged , No Comments »
President-elect Barack Obama is scheduled to be sworn in on the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 20th. The inauguration ceremony should begin about 7 a.m. and conclude by 9 a.m. Because of its obvious historic significance, it is expected that many teachers, staff members and students will want to watch the event on TV or the Web.
Please rely on the television broadcasts as your means to view this historic event.  Due to bandwidth demands country-wide during the address, the PPS network should not be used as your primary means to view this content.  If all users start to stream content simultaneously, it will dramatically affect PPS network performance.  If you find that there is no television alternative available, please contact the IT Service Desk and we will do our best to address your needs.
Here are some details regarding cable TV availability:
SCHOOLS: Each PPS school has cable access but the number of access points within the building varies from site to site. The Multimedia Library has a limited number of video projectors that can be used to display a TV broadcast on to a larger screen but there are several considerations when deciding to use this option. Access to a cable outlet in a larger room is the most important while there is also a need for a VCR or other piece of video equipment that contains a tuner. External speakers would also be needed to broadcast the inauguration in this manner. Some classrooms have a TV with cable access. The inauguration will be broadcast on all the major networks as well as CNN, C-Span and other smaller channels.
BESC: A projector will be set up in the board auditorium that will broadcast the event on the large screen. Overflow seating will be provided in the foyer.
Thank you,
PPS IT and Communications departments
